Wizkid and Asake bring a reflective edge to Turbulence, a record that looks at pressure, ambition and the need to keep your head steady when life gets noisy.
The title fits the subject neatly. Turbulence is what happens when things stop feeling smooth, and that idea works beyond an aircraft. In everyday life, it can mean dealing with people who bring unnecessary trouble, trying to protect your peace, or simply accepting that success does not remove life’s complications. The writing touches on uncertainty, self-love, family and the decision to mind your own business. There is also that familiar Lagos understanding that tomorrow is never fully guaranteed, so you keep moving and make the most of where you are.
On the musical side, the record sits in a mid-tempo Afrobeats pocket, with a production built around log drums and strings. That gives the record movement without making it feel rushed. Asake handles the more reflective passages with his recognisable rhythmic approach, while Wizkid brings a more melodic presence when the record shifts towards thoughts about family, peace and personal progress. The contrast between both voices is one of the interesting parts of Turbulence, because neither artist has to overpower the other for the collaboration to work.
There is a small detail in the writing that makes the record easy to connect with: the tension between enjoying a successful lifestyle and still wanting a simple, peaceful life. That is a very real contradiction. You can be grateful for how far you have come while still wanting less noise around you. The song does not need to over-explain that feeling. It lets the idea sit naturally alongside the confidence that comes with knowing you have worked for your position.
Released on REAL, Vol. 1 in January 2026, the collaboration also works as part of a project built around the meeting of two major Nigerian voices from different generations. Produced by Magicsticks and 4Tunes, the record keeps its focus on the chemistry between Wizkid and Asake rather than crowding the arrangement with too many ideas.
For anyone who understands the pressure that can come with success, relationships and public attention, this one has enough substance to sit beyond the usual party mood. Its strongest point is that simple message underneath everything: life will always have its turbulence, so protecting your peace matters too.
With the contribution of Asake, “Turbulence” takes on a richer soundscape, blending unique grooves with soulful vocal, resulting in a track that immediately captures attention. Stream and Download Turbulence by Wizkid Ft. Asake Below.
